SM’s ePLUS reloadable card is one of a kind in the country. Cardholders earn a complementary pass for every five unique films watched and every 20 points earned. That’s on top of complementary popcorn and drinks for each renewal. There’s even a couple of seasonal deals, most recently discount passes for Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. It has been a godsend for movie buffs, as a single regular ticket is now priced in the Php 250 to Php 300 range, making it such an expensive hobby.
In an email released to its members on December 28, it was announced that the ePLUS movie promo has effectively been put on hold as of December 1. Although disappointing, good news is that passes are still redeemable from points earned prior to the cutoff date.
While there are a myriad other promotions consumers could use the e-PLUS for, based on social media comments, a sizable chunk use it mainly for its entertainment benefits. The system has its array of issues and reloading is a hassle, so without the movie promo, I don’t see any incentive in continuing to patronize it. Here’s to hoping the deal gets re-launched, or one of SM’s competitors comes up with a similar one!
