Having come into the screening thinking this was a retread of Children’s Show, I was thoroughly surprised and impressed by this film. The boxing element isn’t front and center but serves its narrative purpose well.
At its heart is the story of a boy finding a sense of family amidst loss. And his realizations at the end of the film make for some touching moments.
There are no big I AM ACTING scenes here, but I think that adds to the movie’s groundedness and sentimentality. Noel Comia Jr. is perfect for the title role. Yayo Aguila is an acting award contender.
