Lighthearted films have their place in Cinemalaya, from titles like 1st Ko Si 3rd to Ang Bagong Pamilya Ni Ponching. After watching too many entries dealing with heavy and depressing subjects, they offer a breath of fresh air that is pretty much comforting.
While Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha is full of quips and witty humor that have the audience laughing, it does not excuse its plot holes and loose ends. Why introduce Cora‘s past career or fuss about mango leaves or suffer through smoke if they all lead to nothing? The tone is all over the place.
If anything, it’s like binge-watching episodes of a guilty pleasure sitcom starring Sharon Cuneta and Moi Bien. That might make it worth it if that’s the type of experience you’re after.
