The MMFF officially ended yesterday, January 7, and after its two-week run, official numbers are out. As posted on MMFF’s Facebook page, all eight entries in total grossed over Php 1 billion, which is above its 2017 target.
Unlike in previous years, production companies are not allowed to divulge their grosses to prevent bandwagoning, lest they pay a hefty fine of Php 200,000. Executive Chair Tim Orbos though released an earlier statement that the three-day gross of 2017’s festival already outperformed 2016’s entire box office run.
Good news is that you can still watch all entries in select cinemas. In Metro Manila, Siargao only had a 25% drop in theater counts versus Day 2 numbers, with Best Picture winner Ang Larawan and presumed top grosser The Revenger Squad coming at 43%. Vic Sotto’s Meant to Beh is at risk of being pulled out first, only showing in two theaters around the Metro.
|The Revenger Squad||76||43||43%|
|Meant to Beh||43||2||95%|
|All of You||38||6||84%|
With the influx of Hollywood titles premiering in the next weeks, try to catch any of the entries you missed before it’s too late.
